Pamplemousse Has Hiccups!
Its a funny and cute book I made for my mom while she was recovering from open heart surgery. It is dedicated to her, however, the story is universal and is open to anyone who wants a funny story about hiccups. It was intended to make little children and seniors laugh.
My friends told me its like a cross between Mr.Men and Adeventure Time, which was a very nice complement.
It all starts with the eyes when designing characters.. and I tried them all, and in the end, I choose the little dots because I like that they have a way of hiding expressions, or rather, its up to interpretation, and the viewer has to also take into consideration the expression of the face and body. After a few passes, thats how it came about. The frogs were just heart shaped heads with an egg shaped body.
Makes me happy. Its a bit tougher than it looks to come up with -minimalism if you are used to making realism. Its nice to try, I would recommend to other artists to have some fun at minimalistic art; every decision matters/can't hide mistakes.
Anyways, it was fun, VERY rewarding with how people react to these frogs and dogs, and really, thats the next step of an art life, to make art for people other than yourself. Good stuff man.
Oh, I went with Peter Heart as a pen name because my actual last name is just too long to fit. Heart because my moms heart surgery was the silver lining that came out of it and turned into this book. Dig?
These are nice and small little books for kids to slip into their backpacks or road trips, also keeps the cost down. Want a few giggles? By all means, hit it up on Amazon, here's the link: amazon.ca//dp/1069307408
